Job Description

The Pooled fund on International Energy (PIE) is an international grant making and strategy platform with a mission to secure a safe climate, clean air and prosperity through encouraging a just transition in the power and steel sectors. 

We work with charitable foundations and regional climate foundations to support a diverse set of research institutions, think tanks and civil society organisations working with governments, business and other parts of society all over the world. We aim to back local organisations and international partners to overcome the barriers to clean energy and steel. 

PIE was formed in 2013 as a platform of the European Climate Foundation (ECF). Position

About the role:

The Transition Director will lead the strategic and operational project to transition PIE from its current host, ECF, into an independent legal entity.

Key responsibilities:

  • Planning the full transition process, including: 
    • Developing and managing a comprehensive transition roadmap with clear milestones and dependencies. 
    • Mapping out phase one of the new organisation with core functionality. 
    • Developing a digital transformation plan. 
    • Liaising regularly with ECF point of contact; adjusting plan as needed. 
  • Managing the full transition process, including 
    • Overseeing establishment of new legal entity/entities in appropriate jurisdictions. 
    • Ensuring deliver of phase one of the new organisation with core functionality. 
    • oIdentifying and managing relevant consultants and advisors to support legal, financial, HR, technology, and operational aspects of the transition. 
    • Managing transition budget. 
    • Ensuring continuity of operations and minimal disruption to ongoing grantmaking and partnerships. 
    • Overseeing the development of governance structures, operational systems (HR, finance, IT, grants management), and compliance frameworks. 
    • Identifying risks and creating mitigation strategies. 
    • Working collaboratively with functional heads within PIE and ECF to reach transition milestones 
  • Communicating and managing communications and relationships with key stakeholders 
    • Negotiating and coordinating the separation from ECF in close partnership with ECF colleagues across departments and levels. 
    • Ensuring a smooth and productive relationship with ECF throughout the project. 
    • Setting a working relationship with functional heads within PIE. 
    • Engaging and aligning a diverse set of stakeholders, including funders, partners, and governance bodies. 
    • Communicating any risks to relevant stakeholders where needed. 
    • Reporting regularly to the PIE Leadership Team, interim governance body and funders and other key stakeholders on progress, risks, and mitigation strategies. 

Requirements

  • 10-15 years of relevant experience, including leading complex organisational transitions, spin-offs, or start-up growth.
  • Experience in the NGO and/or philanthropic sectors, preferably including Dutch entities.
  • Skilled at managing relationships with stakeholders across levels and departments to get things done.
  • Strong strategic thinking, project management, and negotiation skills.
  • Deep understanding of legal, financial, and operational aspects of organisational development.
  • Excellent communication and change management capabilities.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages an asset.

Location  

Location: Flexible; must be able to work within 2 hours of CET timezone and travel to Europe periodically
