Job Description

Your job in a nutshell…

As an Accountant, you are part of the Finance team and a trusted partner to the Finance Manager. Your role is to ensure the books are balanced, the organisation’s obligations are covered and provide clear and timely reporting to the Finance Manager.

In this position, you will have access to sensitive and confidential information which you will always handle with the utmost discretion and tact.

You will work closely with the Finance team as well as the Project Managers and report to the Finance Manager.

Your key responsibilities

  • You will comply with all organisation and country accounting and financial regulations, including the EC Operating Grant and any other funders’ contracts;
  • You will keep the general & analytical accounting records and ensure they are up-to-date;
  • You will compile, analyse and provide reporting on financial data;
  • You will create periodic reports, such as balance sheets, profit and loss statements, review of AP & AR;
  • You will carry out bank reconciliations and manage day-to-day transactions;
  • You will be responsible to book payroll activities;
  • You will prepare the quarterly VAT statements and ensure they are submitted within the legal timeline;
  • You will ensure monthly reconciliation and consolidation of records;
  • You will ensure the internal policies and guidelines and followed by all the staff and participants to the training activities;
  • You will liaise with internal and external auditors and provide them with the necessary documents to perform their reviews;
  • You will keep up to date on current legislation related to finance and accounting;
  • You will prepare budgets and financial forecasts for the Finance Manager;
  • You will train newcomers on finance processes and requirements.

Desired competencies and experience

  • You have a genuine interest in EJTN’s mission and recognise yourself in our values, amongst which: professionalism and responsiveness, transparency, accountability and cooperation;
  • You are a certified accountant in Belgium;
  • You have 3-5 years’ experience as general accountant (able to manage a company’s accounts from A to Z), previous experience with financial management of EU funded projects is an asset;
  • You have previous experience with General Ledger as well as quarterly/yearly closing processes;
  • You have sound knowledge of the Belgian GAAP;
  • You have a first experience in non-profit in an international environment;
  • You take full ownership of your area of responsibility and enjoy problem solving;
  • You are rigorous, detailed-oriented and quality-driven with excellent analytical skills;
  • As part of the support team, you work with a customer oriented approach;
  • You hold yourself to the highest ethical standards of integrity and trust and you have a clean criminal record;
  • You are computer literate with outstanding Excel skills;
  • You are able to quickly learn how to operate new software; knowledge of Exact on line would be an asset
  • You are fluent in French and English;
  • Above all, you are a true team player with a friendly, open personality and a sense of humour.
