Job Description
ECAS is looking for an intern to support its EU rights team. ECAS has an extensive track record of helping EU citizens with the exercise of the rights attached to their EU citizenship, and an in-depth knowledge of the problems associated with their implementation. For the last 20 years, ECAS has been running “Your Europe Advice” – an EU-funded advice service- and has been implementing several activities to support citizens, CSOs, and civil servants in applying EU legislation in their daily work, notably in the areas of freedom of movement and voting rights.
It is for a minimum 6-month internship, based in Brussels.
Tasks
Under the guidance of senior team members, the successful candidate will carry out tasks related to ECAS’ EU Rights focus area and other daily activities, including:
- Supporting the Senior Legal Manager in their tasks;
- Supporting the organisation of online and offline events (i.e. webinars);
- Monitoring of EU law and court developments;
- Contributing to the monthly legal updates (overview of the most important ECJ cases and infringement procedures);
- Carrying out research in the European Rights Focus Area;
- Performing other tasks as requested to contribute to the objectives of ECAS.
Knowledge and Experience
- Relevant degree in law, possibly with a focus on EU law;
- Excellent knowledge of the EU decision-making process;
- Excellent knowledge of EU Rights and European citizenship;
- Ability to work with quantitative data.
Skills Required
- English language proficiency – written and oral;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Friendly, social, proactive;
- Team worker but capable of performing tasks independently;
- Capable to working under pressure and observing strict deadlines;
- Capable of multitasking.
Commitment to ECAS’ mission and values is a must.
Contract
The position is Brussels based. The successful candidate will be offered an initial one-year contract. Upon positive performance review and budget availability, the contract can be transferred into permanent employment after this period.
The salary depends on the experience of the candidate. The starting salary is EUR 2,000 net, including benefits. Food vouchers are provided in addition.
